2004-02-18 - 8:44 a.m. As I figure out what I am going to do with this space I might as well tell you something of myself. I work as a computer programmer for a vertical market accounting software company. If you check my profile you see I live in Akron, OH. Born and raised actually. Not a bad place to live - we are close enough to Cleveland to enjoy the professional sports (if Cleveland sports can be called enjoyable) and to take advantage of Cleveland Clinic & University Hospitals but far enough away so we do not have to pay the taxes for them or get caught in lake-effect snow all the time. Outside of work I like to walk, play tai chi (favorites are Yang & sword), read, genealogy, and watch movies. Every now and then I sneak in a yoga class as well. For both movies & reading I lean toward Star Trek, mysteries, fantasy/adventure and more general science fiction. In the last few years walking has become a real passion for me. Last year I went to the American Volksport Association's conference in Colorado Springs. I am taking 3 different walking trips this year as well. Although I had walked a lot before this I had trouble getting to AVA events and mostly participated in local walking events. I am very fortunate because in the county where I live there is a national park and a great set of local parks, both of which has walking programs. Additionally the Ohio & Erie Canal corridor is now getting federal funding and they have started to sponser a walking program. Now that I have more time I intend to do more than the 1 or 2 AVA events that I have done in the past. Let's see, I'm single.
